What does a reverse osmosis system (Aora W23) filter out, and what can it not filter?
The Aora W23 is a reverse osmosis system that is particularly effective at removing harmful substances from water. Here is an overview:
What is filtered out?
Heavy metals: lead, copper, cadmium, chromium, nickel and others.
Chemical contaminants: chlorine, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides.
Microorganisms: bacteria and viruses (even more effectively in combination with a UV filter).
Salts and minerals: nitrates, sulphates, fluorides, arsenic.
Particles: sediment, rust, sand, suspended matter.
Organic compounds: pharmaceutical residues, hormones.
What is not filtered out?
Gases: dissolved gases such as oxygen or carbon dioxide are not removed.
Very small molecules: some extremely small organic molecules can pass through the membrane.
Taste and odour: chlorine and other taste-affecting substances are removed, but the taste of pure water may be perceived as «flat» because minerals are missing.
Note on minerals: reverse osmosis also removes beneficial minerals such as calcium and magnesium. Some models (possibly including the Aora W23) do have a mineralization filter that returns important minerals to the water after filtration.
